Thank you to all of our friends visiting the LINC and we can’t wait to see more of our Newnan community out and about on the trails. Our system of trails is a great way to explore Newnan and enjoy the parks throughout our town.

But the summer months bring their own challenges such as extreme heat and unexpected weather. Here are some tips on how to stay safe in the summer heat.
The weather is often more mild in the early morning or in the evening. These are a great time to walk, bike, and explore the LINC. But keep in mind that our system of trails closes at dusk. Plan your outdoor activities to coincide with the cooler parts of the day.
Keeping cool is of the utmost importance. This can include wearing lighter fabrics, using cooling products such as portable fans, spray bottles, and cooling towels.
Sun damage is always a threat–and even more so during the hot summer months. Using sunscreen is a necessity to protect your skin. And don’t forget to reapply. You should aim to reapply your sunscreen every two hours, even if it is a high SPF or water resistant. Sunscreen still wears off and needs to be reapplied.
Make sure to stay hydrated when enjoying the LINC. Drink plenty of water and please don’t wait until you are thirsty. Being thirsty is your body telling you it is dehydrated. Bringing a water bottle with you is a great way to enjoy the LINC in the summer.
Although heat is a big factor when it comes to enjoying the outdoors in the summer, there are also other weather factors to take into account. Summer thunderstorms and hurricanes can be unexpected. When planning your time outside, always be prepared for shifts in weather and always put your safety first. Keep track of the weather for storms as well as heatwave warnings.
When spending time on the LINC, try to find shade when possible. We have pocket parks and sitting areas in various places along the pathways. This can also include wearing sun protection such as sunhats, sun protective clothing, or even an umbrella.
When enjoying the LINC with your pets, make sure they are also protected from the extreme heat. Make sure they have plenty of water and be aware that the pavement could be hot for your pet. Please remember to clean up your pet. We have pet stations to get rid of waste.
We can’t wait to see our Newnan community spending time on the LINC, but we want to make sure everyone is doing so in a safe way. Make sure to take care of yourself as you enjoy the outdoors this summer.
