Krystal told us all about her work on commercial murals. She also shared that she works on hand painted signs as well. For her murals, she loves being involved throughout the design process. She shared how she loves working with businesses and finding exactly what each business needs. She said, “the fun part is when you see a business with a particular need, and usually they’re looking to attract more customers, […] And then I can design something for their space that will ultimately meet their needs.”
There are so many different avenues and mediums of art. Krystal Maynor started painting on canvas, and did not expect she would end up painting murals, but she always admired the murals of fellow artists.
She became more interested in murals and “started to learn about other muralists and they really inspired me. At one point I joined something called The Artist Academy with Andrea Erhart, and I read her book about painting murals, and I just decided to try 1 or 2, and it just didn’t stop after that.”
Maynor expressed how excited she was when she first heard from the LINC about the Greison Trail mural project. She shared with us what drew her to this project. She said, “What they were looking for was something that was totally immersive and […] featured the nature, the local flora and fauna of the area.”
She shared with us the inspiration behind the mural and what she wanted her mural to convey. She said, “I wanted it to be something where people stepped into the tunnel and felt like they were in another world.” She wanted her mural to feel like you are transported when you step inside the tunnel “ like they’re just part of this understory in Newnan.”
